Summer Cinema in Zakopane – July 2024

Join us for magical film evenings in the heart of Zakopane! From July 1 to August 31, Zakopane’s Independence Square will become one of three unique venues for the 17th edition of the BNP Paribas Summer Cinema Sopot-Zakopane festival.

What awaits the viewers?

  • Screenings under the stars: Every evening, just after sunset, we invite you to free outdoor film screenings. In July, screenings start at 9:30 PM, and in August at 9:00 PM.
  • Diverse repertoire: Enjoy iconic films that have delighted audiences for years, such as “Pulp Fiction,” “The Matrix,” and “The Shawshank Redemption.” Each day of the week has its own theme – from family movies on Mondays to Oscar hits on Fridays.
  • Special attractions: In addition to evening screenings, the festival offers numerous daytime attractions, such as film-themed cocktails and ice cream from the Koral Brothers brand. In Sopot, there will also be the festival café Koło Molo and the Neonail Beauty Corner on Oscar Fridays.

PoSzlaki TPN: Lecture “Spruce Bark Beetle – Impact on Forests and Evaluation of Effects”

The Tatra National Park invites you to a lecture as part of the PoSzlaki action! On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 6:00 PM, Tomasz Skrzydłowski will talk about the impact of the spruce bark beetle on Tatra forests. The event will take place at the TPN Nature Education Center at Chałubińskiego 42a Street in Zakopane. Admission is free.

The lecture will focus on the role of beetles in the ecosystem and their impact on the forest environment. This is a perfect opportunity to understand why these small beetles are so important for the nature of the Tatras.

223rd Evening at Harenda: Natalia Budzyńska “Zakopane of Female Artists”

The Association of Friends of Jan Kasprowicz’s Work cordially invites you to the 223rd Evening at Harenda, which will take place on July 5, 2024, at 7:00 PM at the Jan Kasprowicz Museum. The meeting will be hosted by Beata Denis-Jastrzębska, and the special guest will be Natalia Budzyńska, author of the book “Zakopane of Female Artists.”

Natalia Budzyńska, a well-known journalist and publicist, winner of the Zakopane Literary Award for the biography “Witkiewicz, Father of Witkacy,” this time gives voice to women who significantly influenced the artistic life of Zakopane. Her latest book introduces the profiles of forgotten female artists who created and conquered mountains equally with men.

During the meeting, we will learn who these women were, why they were forgotten, and what role they played in the history of Zakopane. It will also be an opportunity to learn about the history of this unique city.

The Evening at Harenda is part of the 9th Zakopane Literary Festival, supported by the Zakopane City Office.

9th Zakopane Literary Festival

We invite you to the ninth edition of the Zakopane Literary Festival, which will take place from July 5-7, 2024, under the theme “Our Alphabet.” This unique event, celebrating literature as the foundation of our cultural and linguistic identity, will take place in various historically and culturally significant places in Zakopane.

The festival pays tribute to Zakopane’s literary and cultural tradition, created by such artists as Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, Stefan Żeromski, Karol Szymanowski, and Zofia Stryjeńska. The program will include author meetings at the Jan Kasprowicz Museum, the Kornel Makuszyński Museum, and the historic house of Jan Sztaudynger.

Who are the guests at the 9th festival?

Guests of the festival will include Natalia Budzyńska, Andrzej Franaszek, Magdalena Grzebałkowska, Tomasz Jastrun, Edyta Jungowska, Małgorzata Lebda, Ka Mochi, and Bianka Rolando. It will be a unique opportunity to talk to authors and participate in literary workshops “Close to the text” led by Agnieszka Foryś. A novelty will be the “Book and Coffee” meeting, where writers and publishers will talk about the latest publications.

The festival will be accompanied by a Book Fair at the Mediateka Stacja Kultura Zakopane, where the #ReadingHour action and literary-art workshops for children and youth will also take place.

During the festival, the Zakopane Literary Award will be presented, and the winners of the 53rd National Literary Competition named after Tadeusz Staich for a mountain-themed poem will be announced. The festival will culminate in a gala ceremony with the presentation of a statuette by Marcin Rząsa and a concert by Basia Stępniak-Wilk.

11th Zakopane Open Uphill Run Championships

We cordially invite you to the 11th Zakopane Open Uphill Run Championships, which will take place on July 13, 2024. The competition consists of four challenging uphill runs, held on ski slopes and tourist trails.

Run routes:

  • Run on Harenda: 600 meters, +210 meters elevation gain (35%), time limit 20 minutes.
  • Run on Polana Szymoszkowa: 1200 meters, +270 meters elevation gain (22.5%), time limit 25 minutes.
  • Run on Wielka Krokiew (tourist trail): 520 meters, +140 meters elevation gain (26.9%), time limit 15 minutes.
  • Run on Wielka Krokiew (stairs): 260 meters, +140 meters elevation gain (53.8%), time limit 15 minutes.

The total route is 2580 meters long with an elevation gain of 760 meters. The winner is the competitor with the lowest total time from the four runs.

Participation:
A valid medical certificate or signing a declaration of participation at one’s own risk is required. Underage competitors need parental or legal guardian consent. Personal data verification is mandatory at the competition office.

Classifications:

  • Men: Junior, Senior, Masters, Veteran I, Veteran II, Super Veteran.
  • Women: Junior, Senior, Masters, Veteran I, Veteran II, Super Veteran.

Registration: Until July 11, 2024, on the website mosir.zakopane.eu or at the competition office (if the limit of 150 competitors is not reached).

Entry fees:

  • 100 PLN for four runs.
  • 50 PLN for Super Veteran and Junior categories.
  • Paying the fee by June 25, 2024, guarantees receiving a professional running shirt.

  • Run at Harenda Ski Station: 8:00 AM
  • Run at Szymoszkowa Ski Station: 9:15 AM

37th Glass Painting Exhibition at the Gallery of Religious Folk Art in Jaszczurówka

We invite you to the 37th Glass Painting Exhibition at the Gallery of Religious Folk Art in Jaszczurówka. The exhibition will take place in the basement of the Witkiewicz Chapel, giving this event a unique atmosphere.

This year’s edition, titled “Called to Holiness,” will gather about twenty artists from Zakopane and the surrounding area, who in their works will attempt to answer fundamental questions about the meaning of life and human vocation.

The opening will take place on July 13 at 5:00 PM. The gallery will be open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and on Sundays from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a break from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. The exhibition will last until August 31.

23rd International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music

At the turn of July and August, the 23rd International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music named after Wacław Geiger will take place in Zakopane. This year, the festival will offer four concerts, presenting various musical styles through the performances of outstanding artists.

The festival’s inauguration will take place on July 27 at the Red Manor, where Dawid Biwo (bass) and Wioletta Fluda-Tkaczyk (piano) will perform a recital of Wacław Geiger’s songs. The concert will be graced by the presence of Jan Wais, who will share his memories related to the festival’s patron. The following concerts will be held at the Sanctuary of the Holy Family on Krupówki.

On July 28, we invite you to an organ concert by Mateusz Rzewuski, accompanied by soprano Andżelika Rzewuska. They will perform works by Mozart, Rossini, Bach, and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

And in August we look forward to

On August 9, Krzysztof Pawlisz and the Donne Armoniche chamber ensemble will present romantic French music, including compositions by Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Alain, Franck, and Ropartz.

The festival finale, on August 10, will feature a concert by Marta Misztal Bloch, who will present Spanish organ music.

The festival, organized by the City of Zakopane and the Zakopane Cultural Center, under the artistic supervision of Rafał Monita, will once again bring the beauty of organ and chamber music and the figure of Wacław Geiger, who drew inspiration from Zakopane, closer to the audience. Admission to all events is free.

The exhibition presents photographs from valuable collections and an artistic installation, adding a unique character to it.
