History over coffee – Ski fashion from the 1920s and 1930s

Autumn afternoons at the Tatra Museum acquire a unique atmosphere. In the newly opened museum café, the series of meetings “History over coffee” is underway, during which you can listen to stories about old Zakopane and its remarkable residents.

The next meeting, led by Wojciech Szatkowski from the Tatra Museum, will take participants back to the times when skiing was just gaining popularity and style and elegance were just as important as sporting zeal. “Ski fashion from the 1920s and 1930s” is a journey through an era in which knickerbockers, Norwegian wool sweaters, puttees and characteristic jackets created the unique image of Tatra skiers.

This meeting is not only for enthusiasts of sports history, but also for those who like to discover the style of past decades and the atmosphere of interwar Zakopane.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, 5 November at 4:00 p.m. in the main building of the Tatra Museum on Krupówki Street. Admission free, and the coffee – as always – in the best company.

Traces of memory – the new meets the old

The Tatra Museum invites you to a special meeting in a place that is itself a living witness of history – in the building of the former Palace. During the event, curator Jan Jarosz will tell about the post-war fate of this building and about the creation of the Memorial Room, which today reminds us of the difficult pages of Zakopane’s history.

The meeting will be not only a story about the past, but also a reflection on how the memory of past events shapes our view of the present. After the talk, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the former prison cells, where history takes on a unique, personal dimension.

Jan Jarosz, curator of the Tatra Museum, has been researching the history of World War II and the post-war fate of Zakopane for years. On 7 November, the sounds of Portuguese fado – music full of emotion, longing and extraordinary energy – will resound in the Portuguese Cottage. In the intimate atmosphere of this Zakopane venue, Kinga Rataj, one of the leading Polish fado vocalists, will perform. The artist, accompanied by the piano, will present classic Portuguese songs as well as her own pieces in Polish.

A Man of Action, Success and Fame” directed by Wiesław Dąbrowski will be shown.

It is a moving story about Ignacy Jan Paderewski – an outstanding pianist, composer, statesman and patriot, whose artistic and political activity brought him worldwide fame. The screening will be accompanied by a meeting with historian Marek Kornat, hosted by Piotr Legutko. The film evening will take place on Saturday, 8 November at 5:00 p.m. at the Palace Museum at Tytus Chałubiński Street in Zakopane. Admission free.

Sensory activities at the Kornel Makuszyński Museum

On Saturday, 8 November, the Tatra Museum invites the youngest visitors with their guardians to special activities in the Opolanka villa – full of fun, colours and creative energy. It is a perfect opportunity to spend time in a family atmosphere, developing children’s senses and imagination.

At 10:15 a.m. there will be sensory classes for toddlers aged 2–4, during which parents and children will jointly create sensory books – colourful, full of textures and moving elements, stimulating the senses and curiosity of the youngest.

Then, at 12:00, the family meeting “Adventure with felting” will begin. Participants will learn the technique of wet felting, find out what combed wool is and how colourful felt is made from a soft material. Each participant will take their handcrafted work home. Concert by Sting Ray, Wizzmakin and Morsola at the Kombinat

The Zakopane Kombinat – a place of many passions invites you on 8 November to an exceptional rock concert at 37d Nowotarska Street. The event will be a real feast for fans of strong guitar sounds and stage energy, and also an opportunity to celebrate the release of the debut album by the band Sting Ray “Gutter Rats of Rock and Roll”.

Sting Ray is a Polish band whose music draws on classic hard rock and heavy metal of the 1980s and 1990s. Their style combines melodic riffs, charismatic vocals and stage fire inspired by legends such as Scorpions, Judas Priest or Accept.

During the concert the following will also perform:

From 8 to 11 November 2025, at the Nosalowy Dwór Resort & Spa in Zakopane, a unique celebration for mountain lovers will take place – the jubilee, 25th edition of the Light Days. It is one of the most important events in the mountain community, organized by the Polish Alpine Club, which for years has attracted both experienced climbers and those who are just starting their mountain adventure.

This year’s edition promises to be extremely inspiring. The programme includes talks, presentations and meetings with the most distinguished climbers and Himalayan mountaineers – among them will be, among others, Marek Holecek, Krzysztof Wielicki, Leszek Cichy, Aleksander Lwow, Dorota Rasińska-Samocko, Aleksandra Taistra, Filip Babicz, Mateo Della Bordella and Oscar Cadiach. Ceremonial celebrations of the 107th Anniversary of Regaining Independence

As every year, Zakopane will proudly and movingly celebrate the National Independence Day. It is a special day when all of Poland remembers the moment of regaining freedom after 123 years of partitions and pays tribute to those who fought for an independent country.

The celebrations will start on 11 November at 10:00 a.m. with ceremonies at the Legion Quarters at the New Cemetery. Then, at 12:00 noon, a Holy Mass for the Homeland will be celebrated at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Krzeptówki as part of the “Independent to the anthem” action. Afterwards, an urn with soil from Sobibór will be placed under the Cross – the National Memorial Site.

Celebrating independence in Zakopane is also about sport, music and shared joy.

12th Zakopane Independence Run

On 11 November, the Zakopane Independence Run will be held for the twelfth time – an event that has become a permanent feature of the city’s Independence Day celebrations. This sports festival brings together residents, tourists and everyone who wants to celebrate this special day in an active way.

The start and finish will traditionally be at the Municipal Stadium named after Orkan. At 10:30 a.m. the 300-metre integration run will start, at 11:00 a.m. the Polish national anthem will be sung, and exactly at 11:11 a.m. the main distances – 5.5 km and 11 km – will set off. A moment later, participants of the Nordic Walking march will head out on the route. The picturesque route runs through the centre of Zakopane, with views of the Tatras and the town’s characteristic places.

It is an event for everyone – from professional runners to amateurs and whole families. The combination of sport, patriotism and the Tatra atmosphere makes the Zakopane Independence Run gather hundreds of participants and fans every year.

Tatras in literature II. A word about Morskie Oko

On 12–14 November, Zakopane will become a place of literary reflection on the Tatras. The Tatra Museum invites you to the second edition of the nationwide conference “Tatras in literature. A word about Morskie Oko”, devoted to the presence of this exceptional place in culture and literature.

Morskie Oko, which for centuries has inspired poets, writers and artists, will become a starting point for a discussion about the relationship between man and nature, about the spirituality of the mountains and their role in national identity. The event is interdisciplinary, combining literary studies, cultural studies and history.

The sessions will be held at the Kornel Makuszyński Museum, and the conference will end with the meeting “Literature in the Tatras” at the PTTK shelter by Morskie Oko. Energy, youth and music that sweeps the audience away – this is how the concert of the band TACY NIE INNI promises to be, which will perform on 15 November at the Culture Station Zakopane. It will be a meeting with pop-rock sound full of emotion, passion and authenticity.

Let’s meet at the TM – post-workshop exhibition of Deaf Artists

On 29 November at 6:00 p.m. in the Art Gallery in the Oksza villa at 25 Zamoyskiego Street there will be a vernissage of an exceptional exhibition “Let’s meet at the TM”, presenting works by Deaf artists created during the summer open-air workshops of the Tatra Museum.

In July, Zakopane became a space for creative meetings of six artists – graduates of art academies – who in their works combine painting, graphics, photography and multimedia art. Among them were: Dr Agnieszka Kołodziejczak, Kinga Hołda-Justycka, Dr Michał Justycki, Tomasz Grabowski and Przemysław Sławik. Their works are inspired by the Tatra landscape, architecture and the rich heritage of Podhale, creating a unique story about Zakopane “through the eyes of Deaf Artists”.

Dance workshops for children 9+ – Witkacy Atelier

Every Friday at the Witkacy Atelier is a time of dance, music and movement. Children learn modern jazz, street dance and elements of acrobatics in an atmosphere of fun and cooperation. The classes develop the creativity and self-confidence of young participants. The series will run until 31 May 2026.
